Scouting for Food

Each year, Troop 648 participates in the National Capital Area Council's Scouting For Food community service event. This food drive supports the Arlington Food Assistance Center.  The Scouting for Food project also dovetails with the new Messengers of Peace program.

This program takes place on two consecutive Saturday mornings in late October or early November. On the first Saturday in November Scouts drop off plastic bags at homes and then pick up the food from homes on the second Saturday. The food collected by Troop 648 is sorted and then taken to Our Savior Lutheran Church to be aggregated with other food collections from other neighborhoods.

The Troop meets at the side parking lot of Esquela Key Elementary School located at 855 N. Edison Street, near the intersection of N. George Mason Drive and Wilson Blvd. Scouts and parents are divided up into groups to cover the area assigned to Troop 648 (about 800 homes). Parents accompany the Scouts on their rounds. Hot chocolate helps fuel the Scouts so parents are welcome to bring supplies.
