Adult Leaders

The Troop program and activities are determined by the senior patrol leader and the patrol leaders council under the oversight of the Scoutmaster and the Troop Committee.

Each Scouting America Troop has an adult leader, the Scoutmaster, who is a volunteer registered with Scouting America and trained. The Scoutmaster is responsible for helping the Scouts with their planning of the year's program so the Scouts are given adequate opportunity to advance in rank and complete merit badges.

The Troop is supported by a Troop Committee, all volunteers. There is a Troop Committee Chairman and other Troop committee members. Most Troop committees consist of family members and members of the Troop's chartered organization. The chartering organization for Troop 648 is the Arlington Forest United Methodist Church. The chartered organization approves the leadership of the Troop, provides a meeting place, and operates the Troop within the guidelines and policies of that organization and Scouting America.

A central tenant to Scouting America is that each Troop is "Scout-Led." The Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC), not the adult leaders, is responsible for planning and conducting the Troop's activities. The Scoutmaster (and assistant Scoutmasters) provide direction, coaching, and training that empowers the youth with the skills they will need to lead their Troop. The Troop Committee provides resources to help the PLC.

A listing of the current Troop leaders is on the Troop Roster. Position descriptions for adult Scout leadership roles is provided in this document:
